With over 35% of our employees actively engaged in one form of volunteerism or another, Old Mutual has one of the largest corporate volunteer programmes in South Africa. Our comprehensive volunteer programmes are designed to integrate our company and our employees into the social fabric of the local communities in which we do business. As a guideline, and practise, we focus on the following activities:
- Staff Community Builder – we encourage those of our company’s employees who actively volunteer their time, by providing financial support up to R20000 to the organizations at which they volunteer.
- Care & Share – we encourage all staff to take one day’s ‘social responsibility’ leave to get actively involved in supporting community projects such as painting children’s homes; planting vegetable gardens; removing alien vegetation; cleaning rivers and recycling; building low-cost houses; spending time with HIV-positive babies; caring for animals in distress, etc the list is endless.
- Payroll Giving – every month staff choose to make voluntary donations from their salary to organizations which specialize in the care of HIV orphans; the care of the elderly and terminally ill; and which help animals in distress. Staff contributions are matched rand for rand by the Foundation.
